What I Learned

(My personal experience. Why did this verse matter at that moment?)

Two years ago, I lost my husband. I was devastated—overwhelmed by sadness, grief, and the reality of a life that had suddenly changed.

As I walked through my house, trying to process what had happened, this ayah touched my heart. At the time, I did not fully understand it, but I could feel its message. It reminded me that my Lord had already blessed me in countless ways—with His guidance, good health, the love of family and friends, and the sustenance He had provided for me on this earth.

Slowly, I began to understand that I should not remain trapped in my loss. My loved one had returned to his Creator, and although the separation was painful, I still had reasons to be grateful. The ayah gently redirected my attention toward the blessings that remained and toward the constant presence of my Lord, who had never left me alone.

How It Helped Me

(Life Connection. Practical Grounding)

Two years later, I realized that I still had not fully understood the depth of this ayah. During that time, I stayed busy exercising every day—CrossFit, pickleball, and long hours of gardening. Looking back, I can see that all the activity was, in many ways, a way of numbing the pain.

Then I suffered a leg injury and was forced to slow down.

Without the constant movement, the sadness I had been carrying resurfaced, and I had no choice but to face it. It was during that period that I gained a deeper understanding of the words “قَرِّي عَيْنًا” — “Be comforted.”

As I prayed to Allah, asking Him to guide me to the straight path and ease the grief and fear that had followed the loss of my husband, I began to understand something I had overlooked: rest and inner peace are not luxuries. They are part of walking the straight path.

What I needed was not to outrun my grief, but to care for my heart. I needed to allow myself to rest, to heal, and to trust that Allah’s guidance would carry me through what I could not carry alone. Ignoring my emotional well-being would eventually affect my physical health as well.

In many ways, this ayah taught me that self-care is not selfish. It is part of honoring the life and well-being that Allah has entrusted to us.

Closing Reflection

(Simple and Honest)

For me, regaining balance means finding peace and reassurance instead of letting grief consume my heart.

This ayah reminds me that comfort begins with trusting the Most Merciful. Being comforted does not mean that the pain disappears; it means knowing that Allah is with us through it, guiding us toward peace one day at a time.
